Placing yourself in any scene can be fun, frustrating or just f*ked.  However, the experiences you gain – knowledge, skills and physical / mental scars – make you who you are.  They help you become the person you want to be while being comfortable with your current state of reality.

DJ/Producer Anton Titov has the makings of scene-shaper / method-bender.  He has the right attitude, look and talent to become one of those DJ/Producers that he admires and spins.

His attitude: bang out his productions with an eye towards detail and bang on the decks with passion and delivery.

His look:  casual, unpretentious fashionable.

Talent: work on his music while being where other like-minded individuals are at and constantly taking it all in and making it his own.

Interview:

Q1: Your talent and attraction transcends music, i.e. you are both talented AND fashionable, does music influence your fashion or is it the other way around?

A: Although directly related in some sense, I think these two concepts are independent from each other. For example, the music I play can be enjoyed by people wearing both Louboutins and nightgowns and those wearing ripped jeans and converse runners and I am personally thrilled to see it (music) speak to different types of people. As for me, dressing well and comfortable is the priority. Cannot have style and be uncomfortable while performing, and vice-versa.

Q2: Where do you place yourself in the Toronto electronic music scene? I.E. Where do you play (live) and where do you play for fun (party)?

A: Toronto is a very interesting city when it comes to electronic scene. Seemingly divided by genres, I do not necessarily fall into any specific movements, most however would probably associate me with the progressive house genre. I do not really have a preferred destination when it comes to performing, as different clubs offer a different vibe and crowd involvement. As for personal entertainment, in my free time I try to stay away from club-life for obvious reasons…

Q3: What keeps you balanced in your life and emerging career?

A: Friends and family is an obvious one. Although sometimes it is difficult to keep yourself in check, I find it relatively easy to just backup for a minute and enjoy some leisure activities to recharge the batteries. TV, sports, and spending time outdoors always help to clear the mind and slowdown the pace a little bit.

Q4: Who is your musical inspiration – who is that DJ/Producer that really made you fall in love with this craft, this scene, this lifestyle?

A: Oh, wow this is a tough one. Although not so much now, but the French house pioneers like Bob Sinclar and Martin Solveig had a tremendous impact on me some years ago. Right now though there isn’t a ONE producer that really inspires me but rather several, especially from the so-called “new generation”: Arno Cost, Norman Doray, Fedde Le Grand, Avicii and Morgan Page to name a few…

Q5: Which one of your own productions did you have the most fun creating and you are the most proud of – as in it shows where you are musically at now?

A: I believe every single thing a musician did, has to be an evolution of sorts in order to show the progress of not only skill development but personal growth as well. Musical styles change along with trends at neck-breaking speeds, however staying true to your vision while evolving but not for the sake of evolving is of outmost importance to me. In that sense, every single production I have done to date is a timeline of my growth, I know for a fact my magnum opus is yet to come…

Many thank yous and much love to DJ/Producer Anton Titov.  I can’t wait to hear you spin, but until then, there is always soundcloud!  Thank the heavens for nebulous bodies of water particles in a gassy state that seem to play music on my Mac.
