Club Creature Comforts 101 – House of ‘House’ Fashion Trends
Quite frankly, unless you are re-enacting the Beatles famous walk on Abby Road you are going to be wearing shoes.  For most, shoes are the LAST thing we think about, put on or really notice. But shoes are HUGELY important. Girls, how many of you have worn those amazingly hot new shoes out to a club and quickly realized that every step you take has now made you feel like a ‘detainee’ at Guantanamo Bay?
I have had many an ‘incidents’ with uncomfortable, ill-fitting or just annoying shoes. They ruin nights faster than they ruin you poor feet. What have I learned or what people like me done so that we can literally dance for 11 hours straight in heels at the Space Opening Party in Ibiza, Spain?
GO STRAIGHT FOR COMFORT. Do not pass ‘Go’, do not collect 200$. Comfort does NOT have to be ugly, a pair or ballet flats or odd-looking. I have several really cute shoes and kicks (sneakers) that are so comfortable that when I come home from a night out at a club, concert, whatever / wherever I have been dancing non-stop in for the past several hours I can still feel my toes and better yet, they are still completely intact. To the ladies – please stop stomping around the downtown area’s after leaving clubs / concerts / bars looking like you just learned to walk…or better yet, you are trying to forget that you know how to walk. It doesn’t make you look hot, fun or possibly interesting.  Also, guys, please let your girls know that sometimes going for the hottest shoes she owns is NOT going to end well, for you, her and everyone that has to politely walk around you too when you snail back to your cars, homes, hotels. Thanks! Much love to all of you – this little criticism is for our best, as ladies who like to look hot and still have fun and to the boys in our lives who don’t really feel like carrying our asses back to our cars like we’re a set of dead weights.
SO…how do you find comfortable, cute, fashionable shoes?
Try as many shoes on as possible. Hit as many styles, cuts, heels and materials as possible. Easy enough in theory, what about in practice? But what if you find an awesome pair of really great shoes but they just don’t work in terms of style, what do you do? You get them anyways! I really have no idea what I have in my closet. It’s a walk-in and every time I walk in it I am surprised at what I find or can put together. Thus, you take the shoes home and straight into your closet. Look around and be creative. I find wearing them while I try things on helpful. Then, take them for a spin in your home. Wearing them at home, first, is a smart thing. Don’t think that just because they feel awesome in the store for those 10 minutes you wore them that they will work for you all night long. My girls and I always are stomping around in our heels an hour or so before we leave the door and get to that hot spot. Usually, if we feel like our shoes are getting that ‘kind-of feeling uncomfortable’ feeling within that hour, we take them off faster than a band-aid. Why? They will only get worse as the night progresses, and piss you and your crew off major.  Looking like a baby giraffe or some other zoological creature is NOT hot. Being that girl or guy that has to sit down the entire night when you fave DJ is spinning and your friends are killing the dance floor is NOT fun. So save the pretty, find what works for you and if it doesn’t work for you, don’t wear them. Leave them for the super models that only have to walk up and down the cat-walk a few times a night.
P.s. I find certain materials more forgiving than others; I try to stay away from tough plastics / leathers. I love suede because it stretches.  Straps around ankles are my friends, they keep me from getting really tired and annoyed from trying to hold my feet in my shoes while stomping on a speaker / table / anything I can.
Caution with synthetic material (anything that didn’t just die for your pleasure) – they can often make your feet feel extra hot and then swollen, which is usually followed by some not so hot pain.
For guys: pick kicks in fun colours / styles / patterns. There is nothing hotter than a guy with a cool outfit and really awesome/unique shoes. BUT, sometimes simple is better than flash. Clean, simple looking kicks can be uber-street cool when paired with cool dark jeans and a high-impact, printed t-shirt.         FYI – I adore a good pair of dress shoes too, but if they are NOT YOUR style, leave them to the Banker-Wankers and find what works for you and stick to what works for you own personal look.
