In any city, where you live – eat, sleep, work, and play – leaves an impression on you, and your psyche. Many of the places we go and the things we do are forced choices. Others are calculated. Others still are circumstantial, serendipitous or scientific magic. I had the pleasure of going to a masquerade-themed party at the Roosevelt Room.
As soon as I walked in I was greeted by BOTH the people and the space itself. I instantly knew my night was going to be some calculated magic. The theme provided the backdrop, but the staff, hosts and models were the live accents to this masterpiece of a party. The music was provided by Monsieur Cedric, who went beyond a DJ into the realm of ‘sound illustrator’. He painted with nothing but the most current and treasured array of electronic music to create a dynamic dance floor for the entire night.
The vibe – unpretentious, upscale, ‘old-world’ fun. The supper club’s staff and support network were accented in body paint (or covered completely, i.e. their models were functionally nude, but tastefully painted in a classy, jungle-like motif). I almost felt like I was back in Ibiza. Talking to Roosevelt’s owner, Danny Gunman, I immediately saw the connection. His travels and life experiences have been distilled into this space and it essence is a ‘new is old, to be current is to be modern’ take on the world’s most popular clubs WHILE created for Toronto’s refinement-loving citizenship.
I mingled with many people in the room – which was artfully done in an Art Deco style. I was constantly told how much fun they were having, how they loved the décor and how they loved a spaced with a clear, well-produced theme. Paul – a self-proclaimed ‘IT guy’ – said that he loved the mask he was given, felt energized and liberated by it and thought that it really ‘pushes you to that next level in your night’. What was especially charming, while chatting with me, he stated ‘should I have it [the mask] on while talking to you?’
Clearly the theme worked. Looking at Roosevelt’s web page you can see that they have many theme nights planned and suited for their cliental. They are also bringing great DJ’s while pushing on extravagance.
My suggestion is to go and experience what E.U. super clubs and supper clubs are known for – parties with a purpose and design – BUT in Toronto, at T.O.’s loveliest addition to the emerging supper club scene.

This is the place to be every friday night. The staff, owners and DJs are awsome ! Stay tuned for a guest appearance by the “White Shades”
